Bulletproof Bone Broth with Chaga!

Add chaga to a small saucepan, pouring bone broth and water over to soak. Bring to a boil and then remove from heat, adding turmeric and curry powder and allowing to steep off heat for 5-8 minutes.

Strain through a small mesh strainer to remove chunks. Add MCT oil and whisk together with a handheld emulsion blender or whisk. Drink immediately and commence healing.

Ah, winter. Pretty lights, gift giving and germ sharing. Tis the season!

I’m gonna be honest, I got hit with the grossness just a few days ago. I popped out of bed at 1am (no joke, it was that dire) to begin a double batch of bone broth, because I just knew our house was about to get up and then get down with the sickness… ha. Ha. Some of you get that and others, please pay no attention to this crazy person behind the keyboard… I’m sick and delusional. (This is actually NOT true, I’m feeling fine. This makes cause for more concern, but let’s just ignore that for a minute. My insanity can wait.)

As I was stumbling around making bone broth, I remembered my number 1 life hack of all life hacks… chaga!! If you’re unfamiliar, chaga is a member of the mushroom family, whose claim to fame came from the discovery that it fights viruses!! Ya heard me! A powerhouse of antioxidants, anti-inflammatories and immune boosters, this little chunk of health gives illnesses a nice one-two punch. Brewed with bone broth, added turmeric and curry powder… your cold doesn’t stand a chance. Also, it’s friggin delicious! It’s like the best tasting soup you never thought you’d actually make at home.

Now, as we’ve all come to realize, I am not a doctor, nor do I claim to be. But I do think there is some serious merit behind food and what it can do to help us. I firmly believe that healthy fats aid in the absorption of vitamins and minerals, so turning this bone broth bulletproof with the addition of MCT oil was a no-brainer for me. This is, of course, optional, and if you don’t have MCT, coconut oil would work as a perfect sub. Those multi-chain oils are where it’s at!

This bulletproof bone broth with chaga seriously helped me get over my ick factor in less than 2 days. I watch in awe as everyone else around me struggles for 7-10 days to get over theirs! And then I go out an hug my bag of Chi Chaga and promise myself that I will never be without it.

And if you’ve been told by everyone that bone broth is great for you, but you’re still wondering how or why exactly? Check out this sweet infographic from our friends at Cognitune

What is the benefit of adding MCT when there is already hgh amount of lipid content in the bone broth?

I find that MCT gives a good boost of energy and fat helps with the absorption of vitamins and minerals. If desired, it can definitely be skipped, but for the serving I add it just to ensure I’m getting a specific “dose” of fat. 🙂 hope that helps.
